The RSPCA Melbourne Cup Day at Lasseters saw almost 300 people help raise $11,589 for the RSPCA Alice Springs Animal Shelter.

For the second consecutive year, the race that stops the nation also did its part to help stop animal cruelty in Alice Springs at the RSPCA Melbourne Cup Day at Lasseters.

Lasseters held two events on Melbourne Cup day, the first in the Juicy Rump saw over 300 of Alice Springs well heeled dust off their fascinators and frock up for an afternoon of champagne and horse racing all in the name of charity.

Guests were entertained by Lachlan Wills from SunFM’s Locko’s Crunch morning show who MC’d the event, as well as a fashion parade featuring designs from Melbourne Fashion Designer Cara Messina and Rusty Zipper.  Frampton’s auctioneer Dominic Miller managed the auction that raised $7260.  Companies that donated items included Voyages, Sails in the Desert, Delaware Kings Canyon Resort, Grenville Turner photography, Charles Darwin University, Inland Electrical, Home Timber and Hardware, Murray Pest Control, Ross Engineering and the Central Australian Drag Racing Association.

Proceeds were raised through the $15 per person entry fee, raffle tickets sales and an auction. The entry fee raised $3000, the raffle bought in $1329 and the auction produced $7260 with the grand total of $11,589 being donated to the RSPCA of Alice Springs Animal Shelter.

Lasseters Hotel Casino Marketing Manager Megan Thompson says “The events objective was twofold, to raise money for the neglected animals of Alice Springs and to provide an entertaining venue for our guests to enjoy their Melbourne Cup experience. The generosity of our community is outstanding and was once again demonstrated at this event.”

The event was sponsored by Lasseters Hotel Casino, the Alice Springs Convention Centre, the Juicy Rump, Imparja and SunFM.
