Lasseters help 'Riding for the Disabled' this Christmas
Thursday, 01 December 2011
Lasseters Hotel Casino has donated $1000 to the ‘Riding for the Disabled Alice Springs’ using funds they would have otherwise spent on sending Christmas cards.
Not only will the environment benefit from Lasseters Hotel Casino not sending out tangible Christmas Cards this year but the community will too. Lasseters Hotel Casino have donated the $1000 they would have spent on graphic designing, printing and distributing their annual Christmas Card to the ‘Riding for the Disabled Alice Springs’ (RDA Alice Springs), a charity who provide horse-riding and horse husbandry for disabled, disadvantaged and able-bodied riders.
Lasseters Hotel Casino Chief Operating Officer Chris Sartori says ‘Last year we donated to the Acacia Hill School to help students with disabilities and this year our staff were asked to vote for their favourite local charity and the one that came out on top was RDA Alice Springs.
RDA Alice Springs is a busy and personalised centre located at Blatherskite Park, Len Kittle Drive. They are committed to eliminating barriers that people with disability face by maximizing the wellbeing of individuals, families and the community. The Riding therapy concept allows riders with disabilities to ride and work with horses with whom they create a common bond of trust, improve riding skills and achieve a more independent life. They also work closely with the children’s teachers, carers and parents to develop and improve learning outcomes including ABC’s, 123’s, spelling, counting and good sportsmanship. RDA Alice Springs also boasts a significant cultural mix including 25 different aboriginal languages spoken which benefi the high number of indigenous kids in the program.
The donation from Lasseters Hotel Casino will be used to purchase specialised equipment such as new girths, pony rainbow rein’s as well as fly and sun protector rugs for the horses for the upcoming hot summer period. This will ensure both the riders and horses are safe and comfortable and ready for the new riding year.
RDA Alice Springs Centre Manager Karen Eva-Stirk says “On behalf of the RDA Alice Springs committee we would like to thank Lasseters for their kind donation, your generosity will make an immediate difference in the lives of the RDA Alice Springs community and our very special riders. Your support and commitment will enable people with disabilities to experience enjoyment, challenges and sense of achievement through participation in equestrian activities, resulting in the development of life skills, improved quality of life and attainment of personal goals.”
In April this year Lasseters commenced a $35 million development of the venue. Lasseters currently has 140 rooms, four restaurants, two bars, a sports lounge, nightclub and an international standard casino. It is attached to the Alice Springs Convention Centre.
